Aaron had just entered treatment for the fifth time, and he was frank about his opioid addiction.
"Everyone thought, 'Oh my god, he has AIDS, he's a crackhead, he's a methhead," he explained in his E! True Hollywood Story. "That's when I understood, OK, either get your s—t together or decide to die slowly."
Aaron also came out about his mental health struggles during a 2019 visit on The Doctors, revealing that he has "multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety," and is a "manic depressive.
He also admitted to taking Xanax, Seroquel, gabapentin, hydroxyzine, trazodone, and omeprazole.
Aaron recently accused his older brother, Nick Carter, and his ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, of attempting to place him in a conservatorship, tweeting, "I have the most deceiving family
And Melanie has been lying to me the entire time communicating with my twin sister and the family members who tried to put me in prison and who tried to get a conservatorship on me in court."
"After much thought, my sister Angel and I regret having to obtain a restraining order against our brother Aaron today," Nick said at the time.
"In view of Aaron's increasingly concerning behaviour, as well as his recent admission that he harbours thoughts and intents of murdering my pregnant wife and unborn kid, we were forced to take every precaution imaginable to protect ourselves and our family."
He was about to enter therapy to reclaim custody of his son, Prince, whom he shares with his ex-fiancée, Melanie, when he died.
